The Los Angeles Sparks have signed Most Improved Player award winning guard Kristi Toliver to a multi year deal.
Toliver has played in over 100 games and started in 54 games during her three season with the Sparks.
Executive Vice President expressed her feelings on the signing extension of Toliver to the team. "She is committed and dedicated to improving both herself and the team. Kristi is a core piece of the puzzle that we need to lead us to our next WNBA Championship.”
Toliver had a breakout year in 2012, where she averaged a career high 17.5ppg, 5apg, and logged in an average of 31 minutes a game that earned her the Most Improved Player honors. Toliver was also named to the 2012 All WNBA Second team.
Toliver was selected by the Chicago Sky back in 2009, and has truly found a home in Los Angeles and with the Sparks by improving in points and steals every year in the since she's been in the WNBA. Also in 2012 Toliver was a key piece in aiding the Sparks to a 24-10 record that landed them a place in the Western Conference Finals against the rival Minnesota Lynx. The Sparks came up a point short in Game 2 that concluded their season.
However with the addition of guard Lindsey Harding, and now the stability of Toliver in place, the Sparks are firing on all cylinders as they are ready to bring the WNBA title to Los Angeles in 2013.
“Los Angeles is about winning championships and I am determined to help bring another one back to this city. There is an expectation that lives here, and I’m honored to be part of that commitment,” Toliver said.
