Fireworks at the Hollywood Bowl
Summertime in Los Angeles means the Hollywood Bowl and the beach. Fortunately, there are a couple of options that makes getting to these places possible without a car saving you time, stress, money and helping out the environment and LA’s air quality to boot.
The Hollywood Bowl runs an excellent Park & Ride program where you park your car in a local parking lot and then board one of their air-conditioned shuttles for only $5 round-trip. There are 14 shuttles to choose from and parking lots are situated as far North as Chatsworth, West as Santa Monica, South as Torrance and East as Rowland Heights. Most locations have multiple shuttle departures. Take an early shuttle if you picnic, and a later one if you want to arrive just as the show begins. The shuttles are able to exit the mess that is the post-performance parking lot earlier than most cars, saving you a lot of time, not to mention stress, in the process. Feel free to take your picnics and chairs on board. You may buy tickets in advance, a good idea for popular shows, or take your chances with a day-of purchase on-site.
From June 22 – September 7, Councilmember Zev Yaroslavsky sponsors the Topanga Canyon Beach Bus. For only 50-cents for adults, and 25-cents for children and seniors, you can take your coolers, chairs and surfboards to the beach! The bus runs from 9:30am – 6:10pm with buses arriving and departing every 5-15 minutes. A full schedule can be found here. Pick-up begins in Woodland Hills with multiple stops on the trip through the canyon and three stops along the coast at Topanga, Will Rogers and Santa Monica State Beaches. Skip the hassle (and expense) of driving and parking while saving the environment at the same time…what could be better?
