La Leche League given permissions for new slogan, Milford group finds new locale

After a meager beginning of only seven women over 50 years ago, La Leche League (LLL) International, lives on to support women during their breastfeeding years. With local chapters holding monthly meetings, LLL strives to promote breastfeeding and provide "mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education."

Central Delaware meetings recently moved to the nursery at Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford, Delaware every third Tuesday at 1 p.m. The group can also be found on-line through Facebook.

LLL International now has a trademark catchphrase of its own to help promote the cause: "GOT BREASTMILK?" Permission, given to the international organization by the famous "GOT MILK?" campaign of the California Milk Processor Board (CMPB), allows LLL to use the slogan in any of their promotional materials and merchandise as a liscensee.

CMPB fully supports LLL and subsequently breastfeeding mothers everywhere. "GOT MILK? and La Leche League care for the health and wellbeing of moms and babies alike. Both organizations believe that breastfeeding is the most natural and effective way of satisfying the needs of the baby," CMPB executive director Steve James said.

"GOT MILK? is a familiar tagline to families everywhere," says Barbara Emanuel, executive director of La Leche League International. "We are privileged to have this partnership and sales proceeds will help provide resources for families to make informed choices when it comes to breastfeeding." 50 percent of all royalties from the "GOT BREASTMILK" sales will go to LLL.

"GOT BREASTMILK" items for sale on LLL's Web site currently include buttons and postcards with mugs, totebags, toddler shirts and infant onesies to shortly follow suit. Other items sold include books, apparel, nursing supplies, and pamphlets.
