LA Lakers trade rumors about a Pau Gasol trade aren't going to subside, especially with Gasol unhappy with his role as a reserve. According to a report from ESPN on Tuesday (Jan. 22), Gasol stated that, "I'm not excited about it." This is his response when asked about coming off the bench, which is what the Lakers plan on doing with him for the immediate future.
Having Gasol come off the bench on Monday (Jan. 21) seemed to pay some dividends as he scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds against the Chicago Bulls. Those are numbers that fantasy basketball owners would be very happy to see at this point, but they are also numbers that LA Lakers fans should be very pleased to see from him in just 26 minutes of action.
Despite getting a double-double as the backup center, Gasol couldn't help propel the Lakers to a win. Instead, the team posted yet another loss, showing that even this strategy might not work in the end. Falling to a Bulls team that doesn't even have Derrick Rose on the court is certainly not the way that a contending team goes about their business.
More LA Lakers trade rumors are bound to pop up as the NBA trade deadline approaches, especially if it looks like a Pau Gasol trade could net the Lakers a young asset or two. At this point, the team is really floundering in the tough Western Conference and a move might be the only choice left for the franchise. Maybe Gasol will finally get to the point where he finally requests a trade as well.
