LA Lakers rumors include the progress of Kobe Bryant with his injury and expectations for next season. Addressing the latest LA Lakers rumors on Thursday (Sept. 26) was team general manager Mitch Kupchak. According to a report from ESPN, he says that the excitement level of the team is high for the upcoming season.
In regard to when Bryant will be back on the floor, he didn't have an exact date that he could give. The face of the franchise is trying to battle back from undergoing surgery on his left Achilles back in April and is continuing to rehab the injury. Speaking about it, Kupchak stated, "I do believe that [Bryant will] get back and he'll play this season. You won't be able to look at him and say that he's hurt. In other words, some guys like myself when I hurt my knee, I always had a limp. You won't be able to tell [with Bryant]."
That's not exactly the news that fantasy basketball owners were hoping as training camp opens and it won't set the minds of Lakers fans at ease either. It could be that the franchise is trying to hold the information close and surprise everyone with an early return of its superstar, but it's also possible that the team is trying to prepare for life without him on the court. After all, he is a free agent at the end of the upcoming season.
Expect many more LA Lakers rumors to come out in the coming weeks, especially as Kobe Bryant makes his first appearances with the team, whether he is actually practicing with them or not. As opening day draws closer, though, fantasy basketball owners choosing to hold on to Bryant in keeper leagues will want to have backup options ready.
