LA Lakers rumors have the team working out eight players recently. The players linked to the Lakers might reveal a bit of the desperation that the franchise is in as it tries to fill out the roster. According to a report from USA Today late Wednesday (Aug. 27), Michael Beasley was one of the players that had been brought back a second time for a workout. This could indicate that he is close to getting an offer from the team for the 2014-15 NBA season.
As for the full list of players that the Lakers worked out, they are Beasley; big men Dexter Pittman, Greg Stiemsma, and Daniel Orton; and guards Bobby Brown, Toney Douglas, Ben Hansbrough, and Malcolm Lee. Pittman and Douglas both played for the Miami Heat recently, but that team has decided to go in a different direction. As for what the plan is in Los Angeles right now, it is clear that the front office wants to sign at least two of these players to short-term deals.
As it stands, the Lakers have 13 players on the active roster. That includes recently claimed power forward Carlos Boozer and point guard Jeremy Lin who was acquired from the Houston Rockets. The team also drafted Julius Randle out of Kentucky in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft. These new LA Lakers rumors seem to point to Michael Beasley and one of the other free agents joining the team very soon. Which one makes the cut will likely depend on whether the team feels it needs more size or scoring.
