Los Angeles Galaxy had its first scrimmage of the year on Feb. 5, but it was held behind closed doors. The public wasn't allowed to see it, but there were various accounts of the match given by social media. It's good to hear the club in back in action, but it is a little disheartening to know it tied Chivas USA. But this was just a scrimmage; it is not a representation of what is to come during the 2014 season.
The big thing to point out is that is started many of the new players it acquired during its offseason. The "new" names included Stefan Ishizaki, Baggio Husidic, Rob Friend, Samuel Rosa Gonçalves and Kyle Venter. There will be a lot of new faces on the pitch for the LA Galaxy this season. Another player new to the lineup was Matt Hall from the LA Blues; he is currently on trial for the club.
The scorers for the LA Galaxy were Friend and Juninho. Hopefully Friend keeps scoring for the club and helps it make it to the MLS playoffs once again this season. He has had spectacular scoring seasons in past years, but last season was a little rough on him. Maybe this year will be his year again.
It is important to note that though many of the new players started in the match, it was just a scrimmage and they probably wont be starting during the season. It was a good way to see the players in action and see if any of the trialists are a good fit for the first team.
LA Galaxy's home opener takes place Mar. 8 at the StubHub Center in Carson, Ca.
