On January 7th, LA Galaxy announced the loan acquisition of Fluminese, striker Samuel for the 2014 season. Galaxy was lacking in the offense last season even with their star Designated Players (DP) Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan. After making no moves in the re-entry draft, they've made their first significant change to the roster by adding Samuel.
The LA Galaxy do love their Brazilians. Half of the LA Galaxy's international players are Brazilian players. Samuel will join the likes of Juninho, Marcelo Sarvas, and Leonardo. These Brazilian players have been making a positive impact on and off the field. Samuel will be the first Brazilian forward as Juninho and Sarvas are midfielders and Leonardo is a defender.
Galaxy is in need of more forwards or attacking midfielders. Jose Villarreal is out on loan to Mexico's Cruz Azul, and will be missed as he was paired with other rookies at top in an attacking position. Though the rookies did well as forwards they did not do well enough to pick up the slack when Keane or Donovan were missing due to injury or international play. The World Cup will most likely affect the LA Galaxy lineup this summer and new players will be needed to help fill those holes.
