The Station Fire seen behind the grass field at LAEC
This weekend the Los Angeles Equestrian Center hosts Gold Coast 6. Featured this weekend are the LAHJA Horsemanship and Rosewood Finals. There’s also the LAHJA's silent auction, which raises funds for educational programs like the LAHJA Horsemastership Scholarship. This year Gold Coast 6 will also host the Riding For Reading Class where riders can earn money for their school's library.
Entry, schedule, and show information is on the LEG website.
Be mindful that weekend temperatures could go above the 100-degree mark according to the Weather Channel.
Also bear in mind the smoky from the Station Fire in La Canada. According to NBC4, 1,500 acres have burned and 800 homes have been voluntarily evacuated. NBC reports that, “The Angeles National Forest was closed Friday as two wildfires continued to grow, and a red flag warning for the area was extended until Saturday night, meaning hazardous fire conditions will continue until then.” They report that the blaze has "grown dramatically" and is "very active," burning to the southeast, toward the western edge of Altadena, according to fire officials.
It is zero percent contained, and fire officials said it might not be controlled for a week.
If you're going to watch or ride in the horse show, be aware of the health hazards, particularly if you suffer from asthma.
