The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed reigning Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw to a two-year deal worth $19 million, according to a report on MLB.com.
Kershaw was in his first year of arbitration and sought a $10 million deal from the Dodgers, who had offered him $6.5 million. Instead they reached agreement on a two-year deal.
Last season, the 23-year old Kershaw easily won the National League Cy Young award, winning the pitching Triple Crown (21 wins, 248 strikeouts, 2.28 ERA). He also led the league in WHIP (0.977) and hits per nine innings (6.7), and earned a Gild Glove award for fielding excellence.
In his short career, Kershaw has won 47 of 75 decisions while posting a 2.88 earned run average. He's averaged more than a strikeout per inning, and his 135 ERA+ would be sixth among active pitchers if he had pitched enough innings to qualify.
