LA County Parks & Rec opens 2011 summer lunch program for children

Families who depend on the school breakfast and lunch programs to keep their grocery bills affordable know how hard it is to get through the summer with all the kids at home. Even families whose kids don’t qualify for free or subsidized meals can feel the summer pinch.  Seasonal workers and those who work in schools often have diminished income between July and October.

It might mean cutting back on enrichment activities such as day trips just to keep their tummies full.

Fortunately, Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation sponsors a free lunch and snack program for children 18 and younger from July 5 through August 26.  No sign-ups or proof of income are necessary.  Simply bring the kids and they will be fed.

All three Altadena parks are participating.  Locations and hours are listed below.

Be sure to click on the park links information on other summer activities for children and adults, such as swimming, movie nights, and concerts.
