Due to the recent scandal with the city of Bell, in which annually $1.6 million was spent on three city official employees, the city of Los Angeles has been under scrutiny for city employee salaries. On Friday August 6, 2010 Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel released the annual salaries of every Los Angeles city employee.

LA City Controller Wendy Greuel even posted her own salary, which is $196,667. LA City Controller Greuel states that the released employee salary list will make Los Angeles the largest city to post a list of city employee salaries. According to Greuel, “The public’s trust has been broken as a result of the recent scandal in Bell. This is an important step to provide greater transparency and openness in how taxpayer dollars are spent.”

In light of the city of Bell scandal, which includes an annual salary of $787,637, Greuel believes that Angelenos have a right to know how their taxpayer dollars are being spent. However, it should be noted that the city employee salaries list doesn’t include employees from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
