LA Auto Show: Hyundai

   2011 Hyundai Sonata

Hyundai considers the Los Angeles Auto Show to be its hometown show, and it used the occasion of last week's L.A. Auto Show press days to unveil not one, but two new upcoming models. Let's take a peek.

2011 Hyundai Sonata

With all the attention heaped on the Genesis coupe and sedan over the past year or so, the Sonata must've felt left out. Well, no more. The redesigned Sonata gets a new look and a new engine.

That new engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that will make 198 horsepower when used in the GLS and Limited models. Buyers who opt for the SE--which is the sporty model--get two more ponies from the 2.4-liter. All models are available with either a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.

All models will be available with a navigation system, and Limited models with the navigation system will have a rearview camera. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata goes on sale early in 2010, pricing will be announced later.

2010 Hyundai Tucson

Built in Korea and styled in Europe, the redesigned Tucson made its public debut in L.A. The 2010 Hyundai Tucson will come in GLS and Limited trims. Available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The one and only engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that makes 176 horsepower. Available features will include Hill Descent Control, Downhill Brake Control, a navigation system, a rearview camera, and a wireless cell-phone link.

Tucsons are already slipping into dealerships, with a base price of $18,995.
