ConOver the last couple of weeks celebrities like Harrison Ford, Slyvester Stalone, Will Ferrell, Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johansson, Ryan Reynolds, Robert Downey Jr, and Samuel Jackson have all been in the limelight for attending San Diego Comic Con 2010. But let us not forget for a moment to focus on who the real star of Comic Con is! Mr. Stan Lee IS Comic Con! Stan Lee former president & chairman of Marvel Comics is not only a comic book writer, editor, actor, producer, publisher, he co-created Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Avengers, Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, Daredevil and many more characters that are now coming to life on the big screen!
During San Diego Comic Con, “the place to be” was at the “Official Pix” booth! Some fans gathered around the booth in hopes of catching a glimpse of the legend himself Stan “The Man” Lee. Fans patiently waited on the long line that formed for aisles on the convention floor. For one artist, who decided to take a chance, let’s just say her fairy tale turned out to have a happy ending!
On July 17th, 2010 Stan Lee posted a Tweet on Twitter: “Remember, if I see anyone proudly carrying a POW! sign, I’ll know he or she is one of my brave Brigadiers! Takes one to know one!”
Inspired by the Tweet, Los Angeles artist Denise Vasquez created her custom KidRobot “Stan Lee POW Munny”. Knowing that Stan Lee himself is a big fan of creativity and “fan art “, the artist decided to take a chance and head over to the “Official Pix Booth” being run by her friends and peers Philip Wise, Ben Stevens, Anne Neumann, Mark Walters, and Michael Olsen. The artist was standing by the booth when Stan Lee Arrived. Upon arrival Stan Lee’s assistant took notice of the piece and showed it to Stan Lee. Stan Lee was filled with excitement when presented with it “Genius, Fantastic, Incredible” were some of the words used by Stan Lee to describe the art. He asked “where can I get one of these?” When the artist told him it was a one of a kind, he said “Who made it?” The Artist Responded “I did” Stan Lee asked “What do you plan on doing with it” When the artist replied “I haven’t decided yet” Stan Lee said “This is amazing, I have to have it” and had his assistant exchange cards with the artist! Later that day, the documentary crew paid the artist Denise Vasquez a visit at her table in Artist Alley as well! Perhaps this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship!
