The Sephardic Music Festival will be coming to Los Angeles after nine years in New York. The festival will take place from March 2 through March 8, 2014. The Sephardic Music Festival (SMF) has the reputation for presenting the best contemporary Sephardic Jewish music from across the world. The word Sephardic is derived from Hebrew and it means Spanish. The festival was founded by American-Israeli producer Diwon. It is the only Jewish music festival in the U.S. to focus exclusively on Sephardic music and culture. It showcases the latest Mizrahi, Yemenite and Ladino artists from around the world.
Some of the shows taking place are: Yemen Blues, March 2nd, at the Luckman Theater on the campus of California State University, 5151 State University Drive in Los Angeles. On March 5th and 6th, ucLadino performs at UCLA. Sarah Aroeste performs at the Fowler Museum at UCLA at 7:15 pm on March 5th. On March 8th, Asaf Avidan has a show at the Luckman Theater.
