This summer, take advantage of Descanso Gardens' extended-hours program, and stay until late. The gardens are now open until 8 p.m., through Aug.23.

While you're at it, take the kids to Little Owls Reading Nest, every Tuesday and Saturday during the summer at 10:30 a.m. The program is free with admission, and guests over age 2 will love sitting in the giant nest while listening to stories read aloud.

Thursday nights at Descanso Gardens offer live jazz concerts at 6 p.m.; chairs and blankets are welcome. Stop by for a romantic evening out or a relaxing time in nature with the family.

Regular admission is $8, but children are just $5, and younger tots are free! For a full summer schedule, check out .

Support the gardens, where a rich heritage of California's botanic history stays alive. They are a thriving example of local flora and a long-time home of many California oak trees.
