During their appearance Kyron's biological mother, Desiree Young, accused her ex-husband of having an affair, which she believes may have led to their son's disappearance.
Kyron, 7-years-old at the time, went missing on June 4, 2010 after attending a school science fair with his stepmother,Terri Horman. She told authorities she last saw the boy at about 8:45 a.m. that morning as he headed to his classroom. He has not been seen since.

Both Kaine and Desiree have publicly stated in the past that they believe Terri is responsible for Kyron’s disappearance, however, no one has ever been charged in the matter.
KGW reports that Terri was also accused by Kaine of attempting to hire a landscaper to kill him.
On the "Dr. Phil" show, Desiree discussed why she has not spoken to Kaine in over three years.
She said, “I don’t blame Kaine for Kyron’s disappearance… However, the things I have a hard time with is the fact that I feel that things were happening in the year prior to Kyron going missing that I was bringing attention to.”
As she cried, she turned to Kaine and stated, “…it was just ignored… I feel like in that, we failed Kyron. We didn’t protect him.”
Kaine said he never received any of Desiree’s emails.
He did admit not paying as much attention as he should have to Terri and his children because he was focused on working and providing an income for his family.
Desiree then accused Kaine of having an affair, saying she believes his cheating may have let Terri to commit some sort of crime.
She said she confronted him with this after Kyron vanished, saying, “…Kaine, a perfect stranger did not walk into the school and take my son. I know that you guys are having marital problems.”
Desiree is also confident Kyron would not have ventured away from school on his own, as he has very bad eyesight.
She also implied that Terri may have had a drinking problem, noting that in 2005, she was charged with a DUI and child endangerment because her older son was in the car at the time.
Kaine said that during the time Kyron went missing, he and Terri were discussing divorce.
Desiree stated that emails written by Terri indicate the couple was up fighting most of the night before Kyron disappeared. Desiree also said that in the email, Terri told Kaine she was done and was going to move out on Friday – the day Kyron vanished.
Kaine denied the fight between he and Terri, saying that Friday was normal like any other.
“We didn’t fight at all… The actual activities don’t match the emails,” he said.
By the end of the interview, nothing was truly resolved, however, the two agreed to disagree and said they would continue to communicate when it came to issues regarding Kyron.
Kyron was wearing a ‘CSI’ t-shirt and black cargo pants when he went missing.
