Fans of “Dancing With the Stars” are disappointed that Kym Johnson won't be a part of season 17 this fall. The long-time “DWTS” pro shared that she has an exciting new opportunity she couldn't pass up, and now a tweet on Aug. 19 seems to have broken the news that the star hadn't quite been ready to share herself. What is Kym Johnson's next gig?
It seems that Kym Johnson will be a judge on the revamped Australian version of “Dancing With the Stars.” The news comes via a tweet from Peter Ford, an entertainment reporter in Australia. He had earlier reported that all the previous judges from the Australian “DWTS” were being replaced.
Kym Johnson heading to “Dancing With the Stars Australia” makes perfect sense for her, given her Australian roots and previous time with the show. Kym competed in the first three seasons of the Australian version before joining the U.S. version beginning in season 3. Fans will miss the two-time U.S. version mirror-ball trophy winner, but everybody can certainly understand her excitement for taking on the new gig.
It had been widely believed that Kym Johnson was out for the spring season of “DWTS” in the U.S., but she did end up dancing with fellow Aussie Ingo Rademacher. She has said she hopes to return to the U.S.-based version of “Dancing With the Stars” in the future, and fans would certainly love to see her return. As much as she will be missed in season 17, fans wholeheartedly believe she will make a fantastic judge on “Dancing With the Stars Australia” should those reports turn out to be correct.
“Dancing With the Stars” season 17 premieres on ABC in September. There has been some buzz about the celebrity cast and pro list, but nothing much has been confirmed yet. The cast will officially be announced in early September, so the rumor mill should be going into overdrive soon.
