Long-time "Dancing with the Stars" pro Kym Johnson won't be waltzing for the mirror ball trophy when season 17 premieres Sept. 16 on ABC, but she will be critiquing the efforts of some of her peers on the show's twin down under, according to an Aug. 25 tweet.
After several days of speculation by fans over the "amazing work opportunity" she teased to Us Weekly on Aug. 19, Johnson officially revealed that she was "so excited" to be taking a gig as a judge on "DWTS" Australia.
The move represents a return to Johnson's roots, as the talented blonde got her start on "DWTS" Australia in 2004. She won the second season with actor Tom Williams, and debuted in the U.S. version with talk show host Jerry Springer in season three. She went on to serve as a pro for 14 consecutive seasons, winning titles with both entertainer Donny Osmond and NFL star Hines Ward, before announcing her plans to sit out season 17.
Johnson wished her fellow pros good luck during season 17, and told Us Weekly that she hoped to return to the ballroom for the spring 2014 edition.
"Dancing with the Stars" season 17 premieres Sept. 16 on ABC, with the official cast reveal set for Sept. 4 during "Good Morning America."
