Kym & Jerry Douglas - an inspiring love story

TV personality Kym Douglas is from Southfield, Michigan - a suburb of Detroit.  The Michigan native began her television career at 16 years old at local station WJBK in Southfield.  Kym later moved on to WLUC in Marquette, Michigan to anchor the evening news.

If Kym Douglas looks familiar, it's because you've seen her numerous times offering expert beauty and lifestyle tips on 'The Ellen Degeneres Show.'  Douglas also appears regularly on daytime's 'The Doctors.'

Douglas has also authored a number of books available on her official website and Amazon.

Kym Douglas met future husband Jerry Douglas (John Abbott, ‘The Young and the Restless’) when she was chosen to host the ‘Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon’ in Las Vegas in 1983.  Jerry was the telethon’s ‘celebrity host from LA.’

As a special treat just in time for Valentine’s Day, Kym and Jerry Douglas share their love story with examiner.com.  On April 6, the couple will celebrate their 26th wedding anniversary.

Here’s Part 1 of our exclusive interview:

Examiner:  Talk about how you two met.

Jerry Douglas:  It had to be God's design, because I never gamble and rarely have been to Vegas over the many years I've lived in LA. I’ve gone a few times to make singing appearances but never to gamble.  From the moment I saw her I thought she was a stunning extraordinary woman.  She asked to interview me – I suggested dinner and it began.

Kym Douglas:  I was from the smallest station in the country represented there; Jerry was from the second largest.  When I saw him I thought if I could get an interview with him to take back to my small town in Michigan I could become the Jessica Savitch of the Upper Peninsula.  So with knees shaking, I went up to Jerry to ask him for an interview. He asked me to dinner and the rest is history.

Examiner:  Did you know right away you were destined to be together?

Jerry Douglas:  The first evening I thought she was enchanting in her person, her smile, her attentiveness, and her ability to embrace life and the people she cared for. I knew something powerful was happening that first evening, She was so young and we lived so far away from each another, but I could not prevent the desire I was feeling. We saw one another that one night, talked on the phone for months and finally she came to me six months later and we never parted.

Kym Douglas:  There were definitely sparks flying and excitement in the air on our first date. He romanced me like crazy.... sending me often, 300 red roses to the small town local station in Marquette, Michigan.  The bouquets were so big some times they couldn’t even get them through the small back station door.

Jerry was charismatic and charming. I knew he was different but he never played games and never pulled the  ‘celebrity actor’ card. He was just ‘Jerry from Boston,’ the son of a rag man who had big dreams and no connections in Hollywood.  His parents had wanted him to be a lawyer but he had a different idea.

Be sure to come back tomorrow – Valentine’s Day – so you can read part two of my exclusive interview with Kym and Jerry Douglas.

I loooove ELEN but think Kym Douglas is really ditzy, funny and ditzy is that good or bad? Hmmm. Kym makes me laugh because she's such an idiot, funny idot, a bit like an Idiot Abroad the TV show, Kim should do her own show, ' An Idiot in Beauty', she would be soooo funny and amazingly stupid. I'm loving this old stupid retard Kym Douglas.
