Australian pop star Kylie Minogue premiered the music video for her newest single "I Was Gonna Cancel" via Twitter on Friday, May 16. In the conceptual clip, Minogue dances in the middle of an area crowded with on-the-go pedestrians.
"I Was Gonna Cancel" is the second single from Minogue's latest album, Kiss Me Once. The funky pop track was produced and written by Pharrell Williams. Inspired by a bad day that almost made Minogue cancel on Williams in the studio, he penned "Cancel" as an anthem for those reconsidering plans with friends. "What's on the other side / You'll never know unless you go, go, go, go, girl," Minogue convincingly sings. With a slick tune like "I Was Gonna Cancel," it was a good thing Kylie stayed true to Pharrell's lyrics and didn't cancel on him.
The music video for "I Was Gonna Cancel" is a departure from lavish clips for previous Kiss Me Once tracks "Into the Blue" and "Sexercise." In a loose blouse and a pair of blue jeans, Minogue stands amidst a crowd of pedestrians walking here, there and everywhere. She grooves to her new single while the people around her continue with their super busy lives. There are a few moments whens she directs the crowd and breaks them out of their bubble. For the most part, though, like Robyn, Kylie keeps dancing on her own. The lighten-up message behind the "I Was Gonna Cancel" video perfectly encompasses Williams' original intention with the track.
Minogue's latest album, Kiss Me Once, was released back in March and it has so far peaked at No. 31 on the Billboard albums chart. Aside from promoting the record, she is also serving as a coach on Australia's version of "The Voice." Her "Kiss Me Once" tour already has a bunch of dates set in Europe, but so far there is no word if there will be any U.S. stops.
