Kyle Singler staying in Spain

Now that the lockout is (tentatively) over, thoughts have turned to setting up rosters for the upcoming shortened season. While the talk is that a presumably wild free agency period will start December 9, there are other things that go into setting a lineup. While it remains to be seen just which players will make up the Pistons' roster for the season, we do know one player who won't be a part of it. Kyle Singler is staying in Spain this season.

During the lockout, Singler signed with Alicante, but had the chance to return to the Pistons when the lockout ended. However, instead of doing that, Singler has decided to sign with Real Madrid, one of the better teams in Europe. Honestly, this is probably a good thing for Detroit, and certainly not a bad thing. The Pistons still own Singler's rights for next season. Singler was a second round pick, and not a lot, if anything, was expected to him. While the Pistons are rebuilding, Singler probably wouldn't play much with Detroit. Now, Singler will get to play some (presumably) significant minutes with Real Madrid. The level of play is less, but it will likely be better for his development as a player. I have heard that Singler has been playing quite well in Spain so far, and maybe if he returns next season he'll be able to really contribute to the team.

So, we have the answer to one question about Detroit's roster for this season. There will be no Singler. Now, we just need to know what happens with Rip Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, and the rest.
