What is better than not keeping your eyes on the road? Keeping one eye on the road anyway! All kidding aside, many parents think about how their teens are driving and about their safety. After all, there is the as old as time opposite sex ‘distraction,’ texting on the move, etc., etc.
Now, however, new technology enables parents to stop their teens from texting, surfing and even talking when driving.
Jack Lavender, 50 and a father of two teens, was quoted in USA Today about the watchful technology saying, “Absolutely, it gives me peace of mind.” He was referring to a product called Cellcontrol that parents can buy for $7.95 per month.
Lavender went on to say in USA Today, “They live so much on the phone, and they do so much of their communication using texting. I know how dangerous it is, so for me, it’s really reassuring to know that they’re not doing it.”
Here are some facts about teens and their use of technology. Nearly one-half of teen drivers use their phones to surf the Internet and over one-third use them to access social media networks. And let’s face it, talking and walking at the same time can be a challenge as adults have even been known to walk straight into sidewalk sings when using electronic devices. And when that happens, it smarts!
Another product that shuts off gadgets when a vehicle is moving is Key2SafeDriving. Additionally, you might want to check out: iZup and Trinity-Noble.
As the ability to communicate (other than being in the other’s presence) continues to expand, monitoring (setting limits) on a teen’s use of technology when driving will be all the more important and worthwhile.
Sorry teens, we have your wheels and your back covered on this one!
