Kyle’s Corner (FYI) Auto ads in overdrive for Super Bowl win

Some people say that the best part of the Super Bowl are the commercials.

This year for Super Bowl (46) XLVI, automakers are putting it to the floor by spending some big money purchasing about one-third of the advertising.   And as an ad heads up, I will let you know that viewers will see the LED headlights of the 2012 Audi A7 (the car does look pretty good!).

The automakers are focusing on being seen where the viewers are – watching Super Bowl XLVI.  Media tracker Nelson reported that in 2011 a record 111 million people watched the Super Bowl and (unless they were running to the bathroom or possibly getting a bite to eat, etc.) the commercials.

And why are automakers looking to be in the game and complete a long touchdown pass with Super Bowl commercials?  USA Today reports Nelson figures that last year’s Super Bowl ads were on average 58 percent more memorable than the regular commercials that aired during the first three months of 2011 (the ones we tries so hard to tune out!).

How will automakers know if they had a Super Bowl hit?  If an ad obtains the ‘most loved’ or ‘most talked about’ status, it hit paydirt.

And one more ad thing, look for Darth Vader to use “The Force” to start Volkswagen’s 2012 Passat (winner of Motor Trend’s car of the year)!

Why have I written about the big ‘game’ after it is over?  I know the New York Giants won the game 21-17!  The Vegas money makers helped to hype it (including the ads) up big time.

Now we can objectively say if it was all worth it.  Rather than Darth Vader doing his thing, I would rather focus on what vehicles can really do for you.  In my book, that is a real win that you can count on year around!
