Kyle Richards, star of the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," is no stranger to plastic to surgery, having gotten a nose job in 2006, but said she wouldn't be happy if her four daughters wanted to go under the knife.
Richards told Parade Sept. 2 that she "most likely" would not be supportive, but if they were adamant about surgery, she might change her mind. In addition to a nose job, Richards admitted she got liposuction in 2012 to slim down her love handles after diet and exercise failed to get rid of the fat deposits around her waist and hips. Kyle has also been open about getting regular Botox injections to keep her skin wrinkle-free.
Kyle looks fitter and slimmer these days after her 7-pound weight loss earlier this year on a sugar-free diet. “I eat almost no sugar,” said Richards. “I’ve lost about seven pounds since last season. I’m only 5-foot-2, with big boobs and a butt, so it shows!”
While Richards is surrounded by lots of super-skinny women in Los Angeles, she said she'll never starve herself to reach her body ideal. "I'm willing to eat right and exercise, but not starve," she said. "I have always battled my weight and have tried every diet imaginable. I'm just at a point in my life where being thin is not a priority."
Diet expert Jorge Cruise explained that eliminating sugar spurs rapid weight loss by preventing the blood-sugar surges that cause inflammation, aging and weight gain. “The key to weight loss is keeping insulin low by avoiding hidden sugars,” said Cruise, author of Happy Hormones, Slim Belly.
Diagnosed With Chronic Dry Eye
Richards, 45, is doing well these days after being diagnosed with chronic dry eye, a condition that marked by a stinging or burning sensation in both eyes, eye fatigue and extreme sensitivity to light. Chronic dry eye can be caused by laser eye surgery or menopause and usually affects people older than 50.
Kyle, who wears contact lenses, said she first noticed symptoms five years ago. She became very dependent on artificial tear eye drops but continued to experience extreme discomfort and red eyes. "I didn’t think I had an actual, real condition, but I finally went to my eye doctor and he diagnosed me," she said. "And that was six to nine months ago."
Richards said she finally found relief after using Restasis prescription eye drops. While chronic dry eye may not sound serious, Kyle said the discomfort affected her everyday life and made filming the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" extremely uncomfortable. She's feeling a lot better now.
Richards had a rough time during season four of "RHOBH," after numerous tabloid reports claimed her husband of 20 years, real estate agent Mauricio Umansky, had cheated on her. Kyle said the secret to her happy marriage is love and mutual respect.
Kyle's friendship with her RHOBH co-star Lisa Vanderpump suffered last season, but they've since made up. Kyle said she has lots of great longtime friends, including former "Real Housewives of New York" star Bethenny Frankel, with whom she has been close for over 20 years.
Season five of the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" premieres this fall. The exact premiere date has not yet been announced.
