BANGOR---- Kyle Johnson recorded 29 points, eight rebounds, and three assists to lead the Calais Blue Devils to a 55-52 victory over the Orono Red Riots in a class C quarterfinal game played at Cross Insurance Center on Tuesday morning.
The Red Riots jumped out to an 18-7 lead behind the hot shooting of Alik Espling.
Espling scored eight first quarter points as the Riots held an 18-12 lead after the first quarter.
Johnson scored 12 second points as the Blue Devils out scored Orono 17-8 in the second quarter to take a 29-26 halftime lead.
Johnson did not score in the third quarter, but he dished out three assists in the quarter.
Tyler Niles and Andre Paul scored five points each in the third quarter. Calais held a 42-41 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Johnson scored eight fourth quarter points and Cordell Hold made three free throws in the final 40 seconds to help Calais hold off the Red Riots late rally.
Orono had a chance to tie, but their three pointer fell short at the buzzer.
Niles finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Blue Devils.
Calais (16-3) will take on Lee Academy in a semifinal game on Friday afternoon.
Freshman Jake Koffman led the Red Riots with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Orono finished the season with a 10-10 record.
