NASCAR driver Kyle Busch issued an apology late Tuesday hours after being cited for doing 128 miles per hour in a 45 MPH zone in North Carolina.
According to a spokesperson with the Iredell (North Carolina) County Sheriff’s Office, Busch was driving a sports car near the town of Troutman and clocked at 128 miles per hour. The stretch of road he was on has a posted speed limit of 45 MPH.
"Today I received a traffic citation in Iredell County,” Busch said in a statement.” I was test driving a new sports car and I got carried away. I went beyond the speed I should have been going on a public road. I apologize to the public, my fans, sponsors, and race teams for my lack of judgment. I take responsibility for my actions and I can assure you that something like this will never happen again. I thank the Iredell County Sheriff's Department and all law enforcement for the hard work they do every day to protect the public and to enforce the laws in a fair and equitable manner.”
In addition to speeding, Busch was charged with careless and reckless driving.
Busch has two wins in NASCAR’s premier Sprint Cup series and is third in the championship driver points.
In 2006, Busch was cited by law enforcement for reckless driving in Richmond, Virginia, after the car he was driving peeled away from a fast food drive thru.
