KUVO participates in Colorado Gives Day

Colorado has always been a very generous state when it comes to charities.  Mark your calendars, because the second annual Colorado Gives Day will be on Tuesday, December 6th.  Last year, the residents of Colorado donated over $8 million to local non-profits on Colorado Gives Day, which far exceeded their plans for the first year.

Colorado Gives Day will be presented by Community First Foundation and FirstBank.  The day gives people a 24-hour period to “give where you live” by making online donations to charities featured on GivingFirst.org.  Colorado residents are always supportive, and Colorado Gives Day is a day focused to encourage the people of our great state to make contributions to their favorite charities.

For the first year, jazz89 KUVO/KVJZ will be a part of this amazing event.  You can go online that day and select KUVO as your choice of charity.  I recently spoke with President and CEO of KUVO, Alfredo Cruz, about their part in this wonderful cause.

“There has been a decline of support of arts in schools, and KUVO wants to show their support of musical education,” Cruz said.  There will be three young musical groups performing in the studio on Tuesday.  Cruz wants to invite people to come to the studio and see these talented musicians perform live in the broadcast studio.  If you are unable to make it to the studio, be sure to tune in to the live broadcasts on 89.3FM Denver, 88.5FM Vail, 89.7FM Breckenridge, or online at www.kuvo.org.

KUVO always encourages young people to listen to jazz and have been a large part of Colorado’s jazz music training and education.  “The goal is to keep jazz vibrant with young people,” Cruz said.

The performances will include:

9:30 a.m. – Back Beat – an 18-piece big band made up of middle and high school students from Adams 12 School District

12:00 p.m. – Adam Bodine Trio – a talented group based in Fort Collins

5:00 p.m. – Quincy Avenue Rhythm Band – playing R&B and soul from Denver Kent School.  The group is led by Steve Holley and includes an ensemble of drums, bass, guitars and horns, as well as two vocalists

Your donation to KUVO/KVJZ on Colorado Gives Day will help to support their High School/Collegiate Series.  In the past 15 years, over 3,000 musicians have had the opportunity to play live on-air from the Phyllis Greer Performance Studio.  Join with local businesses like Flescher Hinton Music and Black and Read Music and Books in your support of this program that helps develop Denver’s community young musicians.
