Nirvana fans were driven into a frenzy earlier today when reports started circulating the the police had reopened the investigation into Kurt Cobain’s suicide. However, according to a March 20th report by E! Online, this rumor was quickly put to rest by the Seattle authorities.

According to the report, shortly after the rumors started spreading, the police took to Twitter to clarify the situation. In particular, they explain that the case was not reopened. Rather, investigators were reviewing the file in anticipation of renewed interest in the case. This seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do considering the 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s suicide is fast approaching.

However, the news that caused the entire controversy was very significant for Nirvana fans. According to reports, a roll of film taken at the crime scene was recently developed. While this does not mean that the case will be reopened, it will certainly give Kurt Cobain’s fans something else to ponder when reviewing his tragic death.

Courtney Love had not issued a statement at the time of publication.
