Kurt Cobain’s death was 20 years-ago and the Seattle Police have release a letter that was found in Cobain’s wallet the night he died. The letter, which mocks Courtney Love, has never before been made public and it is very telling about how Cobain was feeling about his wife at the time.
According to CBS News on April 30, the handwritten letter is almost the polar opposite of what he said about Courtney in his suicide note. Cobain called Love “a goddess who sweats ambition and empathy” in his suicide note, but the note in his pocket mocked his wedding vows to Courtney.
The note mocking Courtney is almost sadistic in nature, which would be understandable as their marriage was tumultuous. The wedded life was full of drug abuse and fighting, but at times they would turn the tables and profess deep devotion for each other and write songs that reflected that devotion.
While the note was found in Cobain’s wallet the night he died, it is not known when the note was actually written and why Cobain felt so attached to the words that he carried it around with him. According to MSN Music News The note said in Cobain’s handwriting:
- "Do you Kurt Cobain take Courtney Michelle Love to be your lawful shredded wife...even when she's a b- with zits and siphoning all (your) money for doping and whoring..."
The death of Kurt Cobain has its conspiracy theories, where some believe the rocker was murdered and many urged the police to reopen the case. Police did look through the case and released a bunch of the death scene pictures for Cobain, showing a very dark and stark-setting in the room where he took his own life.
Cobain took his own life at his home on April 8, 1994. The medical examiner ruled his death a suicide. He left a suicide note for the police to see. He had pinned it so it would be very visible to whoever found him.
The separate note that was found in Cobain’s wallet was taken out and logged into evidence and never seen again. After looking over the evidence, suicide note and pictures the police will not reopen Cobain’s death. It will remain on record as a death by suicide.
