Kurt Cobain was born February 20th, 1967. He grow up in Washington and at age 14 his uncle gave him a old, used guitar. Kurt became the lead singer of Nirvana in 1987. In 1991 the very popular "Smells like Teen Spirit" was the lead single on their album Nevermind. At this time they had sold over 25 million albums in the US and over 75 million worldwide. Kurt Cobain married Courtney Love in 1990 and had a daughter Frances Bean Cobain in 1992. Kurt would later take his own life on April 5, 1994.
Now I know you're wondering why I, a comic book examiner is writing about Kurt Cobain? Well that is because on April 2, just days before the 20th anniversary of Cobain's death, Blue Water Productions will be releasing a comic book about Kurt Cobain's life. The comic will be written and drawn by Jayfri Hashim. The comic will be about his early music career and his quick raise to stardom.
"Not only is this a great way to understand the importance of his contribution to music, but it is a great tool for kids to read about him in a different medium," said Darren Davis, the publisher of Blue Water.
Blue Water Productions has made other tribute comics for Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and more. There are future plans for tribute comics to be made for Freddie Mercury and the members of Monty Python.
So far all I have only seen is the cover art, which I'm not impressed with. I'm a huge fan of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, but the creepy grey eyes and the bad "drawn on looking" goatee are doing it for me. The comic will go on sale on April 2nd for $3.99.
