Kurds not permitted to celebrate end of war with Turkey - slide show

Pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party chairman Ahmet Turk speaks to the media at a news conference in Ankara, Turkey, Monday, Oct. 26, 2009. Turkey's government urged last week Kurdish rebels to "lay down their arms and come home," but rejected calls from rebel supporters and Kurdish politicians to start a dialogue with imprisoned Kurdish rebel chief Abdullah Ocalan, days after a group of unarmed rebels arrived in Turkey from northern Iraq.

Prime Minister Recep Tayip Erdogan delayed the arrival and surrender of additional PKK groups due to what he called "show-offs" that caused "crisis of confidence."

Turkish General Staff Chief Gen. Ilker Basbug said Sunday, "no one can accept what happened in Turkey lately. I share the feelings of our veterans and relatives of martyrs."

Halfway around the globe, in the United States, it is hard to understand why the celebrations were considered to be unacceptable.  In every war, both winners and loosers celebrate.  Coming home to loved ones, the hope of normal life and peace are reasons to celebrate.

Why would Turkey stall the initiative because the Kurdish people celebrated?

Does Turkey prefer to keep fighting with the PKK?

Is the Turkish government afraid the political power of Abdullah Ocalan?

EU has made it clear they don't want turkey. At this stage turkey has decided it better make friends with russia, syria, iran, and the surrounding "istans" (khazakistan, turkmenistan, azerbaijan etc). They got the message loud and clear from france, denmark and germany. Turkey will never be allowed into the EU. They better look elsewhere for trading partners.

Are you saying that you have inside knowlege? Did Turkey come back from the G-20 Summit in Pittsburgh and decide it doesn't want it. Does Turkey still think it will bluff the its way into the loan that it so desperately needs?

Turkey has been bashing Israel a lot lately even though they treat their minority populations in pretty much the same way. There's nowhere like the Middle East for Hypocrisy.

Really? Pretty much the same way?

Do they round them in massive refugee camps and cut off their food supplies?

Do they kill thousands of them?

Do they dump white phosphorus on them?
