KT Tunstall makes a tour stop at Denver's Ogden Theater

Tuesday night, Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall came through Denver, headlining at Ogden Theater in support of her new album Tiger Suit, which released this fall.

After a presentable opening from tourmates Hurricane Bells (an indie-rock band from New York), Tunstall took the stage with her band at 9:00 and entertained the enthusiastic crowd with new songs from the record, plus the familiar fan favorites--all with the high-energy stage performance and tongue-in-cheek Scottish-accent banter for which she has become known.

First achieving international fame with hit songs like "Black Horse & the Cherry Tree" and "Suddenly I See" from her debut album Eye to the Telescope, Tunstall's sophomore record Drastic Fantastic didn't fare as well. The new record Tiger Suit seems to mark a return to the signature blend of rhythmic guitar and tribal-influenced beats that made her famous, with a bit of electronica thrown in for good measure.

In one of the evening's more memorable moments, Tunstall paid homage to Denver fans, and especially rock station KBCO, who, in her words, "were playing my sh** before I even had a record deal in this country." She then proceeded to play her breakout hit "Black Horse & the Cherry Tree" alone on the stage, accompanied only by a loop pedal. An outstanding performance.

KT Tunstall has had ups and downs in her musical journey, but her performance Tuesday night left no question as to her talent and skill.  This is a creative, accomplished songwriter and musician whose songs are definitely worth the effort she puts into them, and worth the price of a ticket to see them performed live.
