KT Maviglia crowned Miss Michigan

KT Maviglia will represent Michigan this September at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City. She was crowned Miss Michigan 2014 on Saturday in Muskegon.

Others finishing well at the pageant were 1st Runner Up Nicole Miller (Miss River Raisin Festival), 2nd Runner Up Kelly Gooch (Miss Spirit of the State), 3rd Runner Up Camille Bridges (Miss Greater Grand Rapids), and 4th Runner Up Emily Kieliszewski (Miss Mid Michigan).

Rounding out the top 10 were Ashli Maser (Miss Iosco County), Tori Juenemann (Miss Southwest), Tiffany Rogers (Miss Capital City), Victoria Lines (Miss Saginaw County), and Jaeleen Davis (Miss Auburn/Midland).

KT Maviglia was crowned Miss Wachtenaw County in November. She was first runner-up at the 2013 Miss Michigan Pageant.

A resident of Ann Arbor, Maviglia is studying for a bachelor of fine arts degree in dance at the University of Michigan. She previously studied at Oakland University, which she entered after her graduation from Dundee High School in Dundee.

Maviglia is founder of the KT Maviglia Foundation for Hearing Disabilities.

She was diagnosed with sensioneural hearing loss and auditory discrimination disorder when she was nine years old, according to the foundation's Facebook page. Her ambition is to work with children with hearing disabilities.

If Maviglia is crowned Miss America, she will become the sixth Michigan titleholder to wear the national crown. Previous Miss America titleholders include Miss Michigan 1939 Patricia Donnelly, Miss Michigan 1960 Nancy Fleming, Miss Michigan 1969 Pamela Eldred, Miss Michigan 1987 Kaye Lani Rae Rafko, and Miss Michigan 2007 Kirsten Haglund.

The final evening of this year’s Miss America competition will be televised live Sept. 14 on the East Coast on the ABC television network.

The reigning Miss America serves as good will ambassador for the Children’s Miracle Network of Hospitals. The organization raises money for children’s hospitals and medical assistance for hospitals located throughout the United States.
