Kroger, Michigan’s largest chain of traditional grocery stores, is offering free Orville Redenbacher Ready-to-Eat Popcorn coupons today only. The move is an effort to get people to sign-up for their online couponing function which ties into their shopper’s incentive program.
Each Friday Kroger offers up a free coupon that must be clipped, but not necessarily used, that day. It is a surprise to frequent shoppers belonging to their incentive program. Coupons are good for two to three weeks.
Kroger has been beefing up the rewards they offer as they strive to fend-off the growing market share of the Walmart Super Centers. Walmart has been running ads focusing on one part of Kroger’s program trying to convince customers the daily prices at Walmart are less than the incentives offered by Kroger.
The Walmart ads focus only on the Kroger gas rewards program which offers discounts on gasoline at Kroger’s gas stations along with Shell gas stations. To make the fuel rewards easier and develop even stronger consumer loyalty Kroger has been aggressive rolling out their own branded stations. Kroger’s newer stations in Lake Orion and Troy, Mich., are driving down prices within a two to three mile radius around their stations, which also offer a discount to those with a Kroger rewards number.
