Kristian Bush of Sugarland shares overseas touring plans, New Year's resolutions

With his usual partner in music and rhyme, Jennifer Nettles, spending time with her new baby, Kristian Bush -- one-half of country duo Sugarland -- has embarked on 2013 with a busy performing schedule that takes him in diverse directions.

As evidence, the multi-instrumentalist and Grammy-winning musicmaker has signed on to play several solo dates across the pond in early 2013, including taking part in the CMA Songwriters Series for shows in London, Belfast and Dublin during Feb. 21-26 before returning to London on March 16 to play the inaugural C2C: Country To Country Music Festival.

The latter London-based festival is an event that will take over the famed O2 Arena for a weekend with Nashville’s biggest names. And there, a solo Bush will open for good friends and 2012 American Country Awards winners Little Big Town on a night that also will feature Vince Gill and headliner Tim McGraw.

Regarding his upcoming overseas shows, “The first time I toured the U.K. was in the early ‘90s with (folk-rock duo) Billy Pilgrim, so I know how much the people there love music,” Bush said in a Jan. 1 correspondence shared with Examiner.com. “They asked if I’d like to play these shows in Europe, and of course I said 'yes.'

"The O2 show will be extra special for me (because) Vince Gill gave Sugarland our first country tour, Tim McGraw gave us our first standing ovation on television and Little Big Town was part of our first Grammy nomination," he continued. "These are my heroes at home and I’m so excited to be on the same stage with them in the U.K.”

As for how he's spent his holiday and his hiatus away from Sugarland, "I consider the time between Christmas and New Year's as a kind of cocooning that exists for me to reflect on my year, gather my receipts for the accountant, finally go through my closet and find out what doesn’t fit anymore, and to dig through that basket of songs that are waiting, patiently, like dreams that want to come true but haven’t yet," Bush shared.

In turn, at the dawn of the New Year, he added, "It is this moment, every year, that I feel ... I can see out there in the distance amazing things, like shapes coming into focus. Like dreams starting in my periphery and slowly circling, making their way into view. I resolve this year to dream bigger, pull out more dreams from my past and trust them, and put more dreams back in every day from which to pick."
