It was originally reported by TheWrap.com in December 2012 that “Bridesmaids” actress Kristen Wiig may join the cast of “Anchorman 2.” This rumor has now been confirmed by Christina Applegate, according to The Huffington Post, who shared her excitement via Twitter today, Feb. 5.
“So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for anchorman2 [sic],” Applegate tweeted. “Going 2 b best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made.”
Wiig will play the love interest of Steve Carell’s character, Brick Tamland, in the sequel that is officially titled “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.” Director Adam McKay also confirmed Wiig’s involvement in the film on his Facebook page.
“Kristen Wiig is officially on board for ‘Anchorman 2,’” McKay wrote. “Couldn’t be more excited.”
Wiig joins Carell, Applegate, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Will Ferrell in the sequel about San Diego's top-rated news anchor. The film is scheduled to be released on December 20, 2013.
