According to a Feb. 5 report on Boston.com, former “Saturday Night Live” alum and “Bridesmaids” star Kirsten Wiig will join Will Ferrell and the rest of the cast of “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” for the upcoming sequel, “Anchorman: The Legend Continues.”
The film’s director, Adam McKay, who also directed funny man Ferrell in “Step Brothers,” tweeted the new development on Feb. 5, “Just found out Kristen Wiig officially on board for Anchorman 2. Cannonball!” and added “Couldn’t be more excited,” on his Facebook page.
Christina Applegate, another one of the film’s stars tweeted her excitement, writing, “So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for anchorman2. Going 2 b best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made.”
Another cast member who is excited about the movie is Steve Carrell, who said that he hopes his character Brick Tamlandhasn't changed at all since the first film, which was released in 2004.
“I think it's such a great ensemble piece that I would hope that our roles are the same as they were the first time around,” Carell said. “The storyline is going to be different, but I hope the people in it are exactly the same.”
The movie hits theaters on Dec. 20 and the legend will continue with stars Ferrell as newsman Ron Burgundy, Applegate, Wiig, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Carrell, among others.
