Although a poll placing Kristen Stewart at the top of the list of "least sexy" actresses seems to be of some great moment, it shouldn't be. What should be the focus of discussion should be the fact that it took so long for her unattractiveness to finally get past her "Twilight" celebrity shield.
As the Daily Mail reported Tuesday (Feb. 19), the men who participated in the polling prefer women more accessible, not too temperamental or cold-natured, and who are healthy. According to the poller, Menkind, a website dedicated to gifts and accessories for men, Stewart is the least desirable actress in Hollywood.
"Our Oscars poll has been a fascinating insight into the minds of British men," a spokesman for Menkind told the Mail. "It's shown that sexiness is far more than appearance.
"They were turned off by volatile and moody actresses as well as ice queens. And they don't want to see unhealthily skinny starlets on the big screen."
If the starlet of "The Twilight Saga" were a baseball player, she'd be a batting champion with that perfect hitting percentage...
Of course, the poll occurs after Stewart has had her problems with long-time boyfriend -- and fellow "Twilight" heartthrob -- Robert Pattinson, who was cast by the media as the aggrieved party in their relationship when it came to light she might have been having an affair with "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders.
So why did it take so long for Stewart to be seen as not sexy? She's always been skinny and has an unnatural pallor that has existed outside the "Twilight" movie(s) set. The 22-year-old actress has never been a sexy dresser, and even her attempts at what would normally be sexy, like sheer clothing, have been disasters. (Was she a Goth girl in high school or something?) She presents as uncomfortable and stony during interviews. She's been known to be confrontational with the paparazzi (well, okay, that's not all that bad; she's not alone in that regard).
Was her celebrity that strong? Or has her star capital diminished so greatly that she now appears less sexy or desirable?
One suspects that if a like poll was conducted among teens, Stewart might not rank so high on the list. Different developmental stages in life find both men and women shifting priorities, likes and dislikes over time. For males in particular, the things important and/or attractive to the boy often become not so much to the man.
But unattractive is unattractive, from the superficial to aspects that denote inner beauty. And the question becomes: So when was Kristen Stewart ever sexy?
Perhaps it was the competitive drive that powered Stewart's rise. Being both a wanted starlet and the girlfriend of one of Hollywood's most desirable men, many may have found her sexy via some testosterone gauge. It could be the reason she often placed well on "sexiest" lists, such as FHM's annual "Sexiest Women" poll, although a fading one. She peaked in 2010 at No. 6. She fell in 2011 to No. 13. And further in 2012: No. 52.
The Menkind list of least sexiest actresses include, among others, "Sex and the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker, tabloid queen Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen ex Denise Richards, "Elementary" star Lucy Liu, and Oscar winners Tilda Swinton and Hilary Swank.
Some of the listees might come as a surprise, some as well-deserved. But one really cannot argue with Kristen Stewart and Lindsay Lohan being on that list.
