Kristen Stewart trains for horseback riding in 'Snow White and the Huntsman'

Yesterday, Kristen Stewart was spotted training on horseback for her upcoming production, Snow White And The Huntsman.

The film, which is slated to begin production in August, according to recent updates by producer Joe Roth to Entertainment Weekly, will involve a Snow White who "starts out not a damsel in distress, but innocent, and after 11 years of imprisonment by the Evil Queen . . . [and] escapes and learns the ways of a warrior in the woods."

The Evil Queen, of course, will be portrayed by Charlize Theron. Like the Brothers Grimm version, her character will be intensely jealous of Snow White's beauty (which her "magic mirror" points out exceeds even her own) and thusly send a mercenary ("The Huntsman" - Chris Hemsworth) to retrieve just her heart. In the fairy tale, the huntsman did not have the will to do this, so he freed her and returned to the queen with animal organs instead. SWATH's take on this exchange and the resulting relationship between Snow White and the Huntsman is, clearly, the crucial aspect of the film (which is the first, reportedly, of a trilogy - or perhaps just "series" . . . see below).

Roth expects it to be a "a Lord of the Rings-style take on the centuries-old tale."

"[T]he two become unlikely allies — at first fleeing the Queen’s forces, and then mounting a counterattack on her kingdom," EW reported. In other words, the Huntsman doesn't just disappear while White hangs with dwarves and succumbs to the poison apple . . .

While EW introduced their SWATH piece as indicating SWATH is the first in a trilogy, Roth's actual quote called it "the first in a series of films."

Producer Palak Patel later pointed out this distinction on Twitter, saying "Never said 'trilogy' said 'series of films.'"

Snow White And The Huntsman's release date has been set for June 1st, 2012.
