Kristen Stewart is the face of Rosabotanica, the new Balenciaga fragrance which was released today. In honor of Balenciaga’s new fragrance, Kristen has been sharing her hair and make-up secrets, and some of her revelations are quite shocking. Below, taken from Jan. 29 and Jan. 28 news reports in from E Online, New York magazine, MTV, Belfast Telegraph, International Business Times and others, here’s what Kristen Stewart has to say. The shockers are at the end of each section below.
Kristen Stewart’s Skin Care and Make-up Secrets
Kristen is not one to spend a lot of time on her beauty routine. To care for her skin, she uses a tried and true 3-step system to care for her skin.
"For my skin, I use the whole Proactiv system. It really, really works for me; I’ve used it since I was a teenager, a young teenager.
Kristen says she’s totally reliant on the Proactiv system for her skin, but when it comes to make-up it’s a different story. While she still expends minimal effort, she’s not locked in when it comes to brand.
When I’m not working, I have a really basic regimen. I don’t wear a lot of makeup. I use mascara, eyeliner, and maybe some concealer. Chapstick. I don’t like color on my lips unless I’m doing full-on.
For her lip color, Kristen is at opposite ends of the spectrum. She prefers really red lipstick or nothing at all.
I like going plain, like a nude lip or full-on. I don't like anything in between. I don't like doing tints. I like doing a full-on red lip or nothing.
Kristen admits that she’s still struggling with her make-up application, but she’s found a routine that works for her.
I still really don’t know how to do my own makeup. I do the same thing every day, if I do my own: mascara and black eyeliner. I’m a bit of a raccoon—I already have dark eyes—so I just make them a little bit darker.
Kristen doesn’t really have a favorite brand when it comes to her eye make-up products. She’ll use whatever happens to be on hand (Lots of beauty products are routinely sent to her by the manufacturers.) or whatever she can find when she shops. She’s a big fan of the dark and smoky eye.
I just use whatever black liner. There’s a pencil that you can get at Topshop that’s cheap, so I’ll get, like, five of them, and they last forever and they’re really, really good. I do both the top and bottom line and then just smudge it with my finger. I don’t have a favorite mascara, genuinely. I like it clumpy, though—I’ll use anything if it’s clumpy, black, and it works. I don’t mind it being really cakey and heavy.
Kristen describes her make-up goal this way:
"I'm always striving to get to the point where I look like I've woken up in the last hour. You know that look you get when you're fresh-faced? You're a little puffy but looking really good? That's what I like.
Kristen shared this shocking revelation about what she does regarding her eyes:
"If I’m being responsible, I’ll wash my face, but I never take off my eyeliner or my mascara because it looks so good the next day. It’s a continuous thing; I think I’ve never really had clean eyes."
Kristen Stewart Discusses Her Hair
Kristen’s hair care routine is simple, just like her make-up and skin care routines. She says she doesn’t shampoo it every day.
I don't do much. I'm lucky; I don't have to mess around with blow dryers and stuff. I use dry shampoo and surf spray and mess it up as much as I can. To get texture, I basically crunch it up — it's not too difficult to achieve. My hairstyle is sort of messy.
Kristen’s favorite styling product is Surf spray, saltwater-based styling spray from Bumble and Bumble which adds volume and texture to the hair to create a sexy, wind-blown feel.
Kristen has grown quite fond of her new side-braided hairstyle because it not only looks good, but it’s very practical too. Says Kristen
"It's comfortable and keeps my hair out of my face. And I liked the way it looked. But you need to re-do it once a week, or else it will start to look gross."
Kristen confesses that being an actress keeps her from doing many of the things she’d really like to do to her hair. She explains
If I wasn’t an actor, I would definitely do things to my hair. I would cut it more, I would dye it more. At some point I want to do a total boy cut, completely—not a pretty, girly version—like a straight up James Dean haircut.
Then Kristen shared this shocking revelation about what she wants to do to her hair:
I’m definitely going to shave my head before I die. I will definitely tattoo my head while it’s shaved before my hair grows back. I’m not sure which part, probably the bottom quadrant in the back.
But on a more practical note, Kristen adds:
I, personally, want to stay neutral so that I’m in a perfect position to, it sounds lame, but to transform myself for a role. If a project comes up and I’ve already got a shaved head, it would be a problem; I hate wearing wigs.
The Bottom Line
Kristen Stewart sums up her entire beauty and fashion philosophy with the statement below:
"I just like it when people look like they're not trying. And the only way to do that is by not trying.
