On Sunday night’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, momager Kris Jenner had a tense meeting with her mother-in-law Esther. Jenner has openly admitted that Bruce Jenner’s mom couldn’t stand her and that they had barely spoken during the 23 years she’s been married to Bruce.
On Esther’s 87th birthday, Bruce tried to get Kris to travel with him to his mom’s home in Idaho and this was the fan’s of the reality show’s introduction into Kris’ strained relationship with her mother-in-law.
Kris said to Bruce, “Your mom doesn’t really like me that much.” To which Bruce replied, “You’ve had no relationship with her for the last 15, 18 years.”
In the 23 years that Kris and Bruce Jenner have been married, Kris revealed that she’s only seen Esther four times. Kris told Bruce, “She has yelled at me. I stay away from people like that.”
In a confessional Kris told viewers about the last time Esther had visited her home. “I made her dinner. I made her brownies. I made her pasta, my favorite soup.”
“I put flowers in her room. I made her feel like a princess.” Kris went on to ask Bruce, “She doesn’t even like me. Why would I go visit somebody who can’t stand me?”
Bruce, obviously stressed from the conversation said, “Because she’s 87 years-old. She’s not going to be around that much longer. Just have her see you as you are because you’re a great person.”
Bruce chose to fly his mother to Los Angeles to celebrate her birthday. Kris wasn’t thrilled with the idea and commiserated her bad luck with her friend, Rhonda. Speaking to Rhonda, Kris revealed that she hadn’t seen her mother-in-law in 10 years and she had been an “invisible grandma” to Kendall and Kylie. Kris said, “She missed 18 years of her grandchildren growing up. That’s f***ed up.”
When Bruce picked his mother up at the airport, they talked about the family tension surrounding her arrival in Los Angeles. Bruce said, “Kris has always felt distant from you.”
Esther responded, “I know. I can feel it.” When Esther arrived at the house and joined the family gathered around discussing Kim and Kanye, she said, “I don’t think I ever want to get married again.”
Later, when Esther and Kris were alone and able to sit down and talk openly, Esther told Kris how sorry she was that they hadn’t been closer. “We haven’t been too close in any way. I’m so sorry for that.”
Kris responded, “It was very complicated I think. Just a lot of personalities in the mix and stuff going on.” Esther added, “I have felt like I should stay away, stay out of the picture, and I have. But it’s not right.”
Esther surprised Kris when she said that her and Bruce’s marriage was “the longest marriage he has had. You’ve been good for him and I think he’s been good for you.” In a confessional, Kris was obviously pleased with the things her mother-in-law said. Kris told viewers, “Wow, I’ve waited 23 years for this. Better late than never!”
