A source tells me celebrity entertainer Kris Aquino has offered to donate blood to flyweight superstar Nonito Donaire, who is recovering from dengue fever near Manila.
Aquino is the daughter of former Philippines President Corazon Aquino and Benigno Aquino, the senator who rose to prominence as an opponent of the Ferdinand Marcos regime. Kris, a television host who has appeared in several movies, is considered by some to be the country’s second-leading celebrity, after Manny Pacquiao.
Although transfusions are not always part of dengue fever treatment, Donaire’s blood platelet count indicates a transfusion might be the best solution after his fever spiked back to 104 degrees Friday. “He is feeling malaise,” his in-laws told me Saturday after talking to their daughter, Rachel Marcial Donaire.
There’s a tendency to portray Donaire as an outsider in his native Philippines, because his family moved to California when he was 7 years old and he seems thoroughly American to Filipinos.
But his boxing talent, charisma and performing talent all make him a clear No. 2 to Pacquiao among Filipino fighters during this golden age of the sport in the island nation of 90 million. The Aquino connection won’t make Donaire a blood relative of one of the country’s most prominent families, but the blood donation would cement the notion that he is family.

Nonito Donaire's actions and words reveal his true identity. He probably needs to mature more. If Pacquiao did not exist, I don't think he will claim himself to be a Filipino. He will be the first one to trash talk and look down on his own heritage.

right mga tol... specially yung comment ni zdrx. nonitos opinion in pacmanvsmarquezfight2 maybe slightly in favor of marquez, but he said in a very non offensive way. although im in paquiaos favor in that fight, i respect him for the fight was really razor thin close. remember he's one of the panelist. he even sounded more profesional than his other co-commentators. we have to admit that sometimes our filipino boxing anchors were being biased specially in paquiao fights. who can blame them, our idol is that good that all of us gets really hypnotized in him. i mean the whole world... thats why hes no. 1 right now.
but again lets not blame nonito for being honest. our champ needs our support right now and thats the only good thing we can pay him back for the honor he brings to the filipinos. and most specially in shutting darchinyans mouth!
