Kraft Foods issues voluntary recall on cottage cheese: Due to improper storage

Nutrition food safety alerts are guaranteed to get the attention of the public. They provide pertinent information on recalled foods for many reasons. The FDA just issued an update yesterday on the voluntary recall issued by Kraft Foods that was originally submitted on Saturday regarding many name brand cottage cheese products due to outdated storage and temperature standards that could affect the daily products.

The cottage cheese products included in the recall affect Breakstone, Simply Kraft, Knudsen and Daily Chef. There were as many as ½ million cases of these products shipped to customers ranging in size and flavors.

Kraft issued the recall as a precaution because the storage and temperatures of some ingredients weren’t held at the proper temperatures. This may cause premature spoilage or possible food borne illnesses. To prevent these from occurring, the recall went into effect before anyone could fall ill from eating the cottage cheese products.

The affected products all have code with dates from May 9, 2014 through July 23, 2014. Consumers can find the code date on the bottom of the cup or the top of the package. Simply Kraft products contain a plant code of 36-2158 on the cups or a “W” in the case code, (“W 21 JUL 2014”) these are not affected. Simply Kraft products subject to the recall are only those with a plant code of 06-245 on the bottom of the cup and case code date without any “W” (“21 JUL 2014”).

Consumers who purchased any of these products should not eat them. They should return them to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund. Consumers also can contact Kraft Foods Consumer Relations at 1-800-396-6307 between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. EST.
