Musician Koryna Ray moved to America in 2007 to pursue her two careers, music and medicine. She states, "To me there is no such thing as luck. Being lucky means being organized, working hard and being ready for the opportunity when it knocks at your door, and believe me it does knock. I believe in myself. I have never doubled myself. I love what I do so much and I keep pushing my self all the time. I am a perfectionist. I think that getting the proper professional training and reaching out to the right producers can make a huge difference in furthering one's musical career. Finding a good manager is also a must in order to become successful. Music is my MEDICINE, it's my life, my everything."

How long have you been singing?

It has probably been only one year of professional vocal coaching, the rest is solely my work. I started singing at the age of 7 when I sang in the church choir. I was not born in America, but America was born in me. After the revolution in Romania in 1989, we had the chance to listen to Mariah Carey, Backstreet boys, Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera... this is when I fell in love with music. During my years of study in medical school, at the University of Medicine in Romania, my love for music kept growing but I did not have much time for music since school was occupying most of my time. In 2007, I decided I wanted to take a step forward and I started taking professional vocal classes. I was introduced by a friend to Crina Mardare, who was training the kids for the TV musical show called "Megastar.”

After moving to America in November 2007, I started searching for ways to break into the music industry here. I knew nothing about the music business, I only knew I loved to sing more than anything on this planet. I knew that if I did not do anything about it, I would never be happy or forgive myself for not trying. In 2008 I started vocal training with Ric Poulin, but the classes were expensive and I had to quit. I kept working on my own until the end of 2010 when I started taking vocal classes with Billy Purnel, a very well known vocal coach in Southern California.

Where are you from?

I was born in Romania.

Have you ever entered any musical contests for Indie Artists?

I have never entered an contest before, but I was featured on LA Talk Radio with my song HOT. The interview took place at the radio during "The Morning Show with Sam and Brigitta.” It was a lot of fun.

What is the ultimate direction for your musical career?

My ultimate direction for my musical career is to become a very successful world wide known artist; I won't stop until I get there.

How are you mastering of your craft?

I train my voice and sing a lot. I write songs, lyrics and music every time I feel I am inspired. I remember the time I wrote the song HOT, it was during the end of June in 2010. Two weeks later, The Berman Brothers contacted me and we started a collaboration. At that time I was in Romania for a short vacation and they were in Germany for the summer vacation. They agreed to fly to Romania to record and co-write the song HOT and two more songs.

How many songs do you have professionally mastered on the internet?

I have only started to share the song HOT but I wrote many other songs. I have two more songs co-written and produced by The Berman Brothers.

What was the biggest mistake you have made trying to get yourself out there?

For years there was a huge battle in my head as to what to do next, which career would work better for me. I would keep going in parallel with music and medicine, but in reality, I had to make a choice. After I realized that I cannot breath without music, that music is my medicine, the opportunities started to show up themselves.

What was the best piece of advice you were given?

As a kid, my mother told me that the words “I cannot" should never exist in my vocabulary. And those words don't exist to me. If I want something, I do everything in my power to achieve what I want.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I like to travel and go to the beach. I love sports, skiing, swimming, hiking and running. I enjoy going to the movies or going out with friends. I like to dance, and of course I love to sing.

What can we expect from you in 2014?

Big things; I am very excited and optimistic for the coming year. The producers are waiting for me in the studio to start writing /producing new original songs. We want to make a new production for the song HOT, as we have received a lot of positive feedback and we believe the song has great potential. We want to push my songs for mainstream radio play too.
