Bruce Kopp and Jose Vasquez emerged victorious in their respective average categories in the 5th annual Andy Rapone Memorial Best-3-of-4 Tournament, conducted at Sarasota Lanes on Saturday (Aug. 9).
Kopp posted a 778 scratch series -- using his top three scores (267-244-267) in a four-game set -- which, coupled with 59 handicap pins, gave him a net pinfall of 837, good for the top prize of $90 in Division A (averages of 185 and up).
Vasquez won Division B (184-under) with a net score of 811, based on a scratch series of 693 on games of 257,224 and 212, plus 118 handicap, and he took home $100 for his efforts.
Cindy Grich was runner-up to Kopp in Division A with a score of 780, which included a three-game scratch total of 705 on games of 246, 223 and 236.
Ken McDougall rolled games of 180, 268 and 245 for 693 scratch (763 handicap), which represented the third-place Division A score, while rounding out the list of Division A cashers were Richard McLaughlin Jr. (761), Chuck Souzer (756) and Josh Merkle (753).
Finishing second to Vasquez in Division B was Ken Combs -- with 628 scratch and 779 handicap -- while Josh Williams was third at 766. The remainder of Division B cashers were Charles DePalmo (749), Cliff Martin (747), Dom Locascio (745), Anna Mae Sweet (743) and Steve Polanski (738).
Robert Fletcher posted the high game of the tournament with 277, while other games of 260-plus were rolled by McDougall (268), Kopp (267-267), Merkle (267) and Robert Oden (267). Grich's 246-705 numbers were the highest scores among women.
