Kopitar needs surgery

Anze Kopitar will need surgery on his ankle, the Los Angeles Kings announced on Monday afternoon. The surgery will take place on Wednesday, and has been described by the organization as, "corrective surgery."

Kopitar was injured during Saturday's 4-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche at Staples Center. By missing tomorrow's game against Edmonton, Kopitar will see his consecutive games played streak come to an end at a franchise record 330 games.

The leading scorer for the Kings this season, Kopitar is currently tied for the club lead in goals with 25 (with Dustin Brown) and leads in assists (48) and points (73) outright. The organization stated Monday that Kopitar is, "out indefinitely."

He is expected to make a full recovery and should be ready for next season. The Kings enter league play on Monday in fifth place in the Western Conference with 92 points and just seven games remaining. With 11 points over those final seven contests, the Kings would be assured of a playoff spot for a second consecutive season.
