According to the Western Hockey League website, the Kootenay Ice have eliminated the Calgary Hitmen from the 2014 Western Hockey League playoffs on Saturday.

In an emotional victory, Ice assistant captain Jaedon Descheneau had three goals and one assist for four points in a 5-3 Kootenay win. With the victory, the Ice win the best-out-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal series 4-2.

Prior to the game, the Ice honoured their forward Tim Bozon who dropped the puck for a ceremonial faceoff. Bozon was diagnosed with meningitis a month ago and has spent extensive time over the last few weeks in a Saskatoon hospital.

The Kootenay series win was considered an upset because Calgary had 20 more points than Kootenay in the regular season and the Ice were without the services of Bozon, who had 33 goals in the WHL this season.

Kootenay will now play the winner of Medicine Hat-Swift Current in the Eastern Conference semifinal. The Tigers lead the series 3-2. Edmonton will play Brandon in the other Eastern Conference semifinal.
