Senior tight end Jameson Konz was selected in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks with a compensatory pick, the 38th pick in the round (245th pick overall).
Konz began his career with the Golden Flashes on the defensive side of the ball. As a linebacker, Konz totaled 80 tackles (49 solos), 10 tackles for a loss and a pair of quarterback sacks in three seasons. He was one of the key performers on the Golden Flashes 2008 defense that finished third in the Mid-American Conference in overall defense.
Konz was moved to tight end in 2008. He suffered a season-sending ankle injury versus Boston College (8/30) totaling a pair of receptions for 12 yards prior to the injury.
In 2009, Konz returned for a fifth year and registered 21 receptions for 298 yards (14.2 ypr) and two touchdowns. His longest reception was a 56-yarder touchdown catch versus Miami (9/26). He also returned one kickoff.
This is the second consecutive year that Kent State has had a student-athlete selected in the seventh round. Former quarterback Julian Edelman was selected by the New England Patriots in 2009.
Edelman was used a s a receiver and kick returner by the Patriots, He totaled 37 receptions for 359 yards and one touchdown in the regular season. Edelman added six catches for 44 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Patriots’ 33-14 playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens (1/10/10).
