Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. announced the opening of a new Los Angeles development studio earlier today. This studio will be home to teams involved with Kojima Productions and will be instrumental in the development of upcoming Metal Gear Solid titles. Hideo Kojima was at an opening ceremony to discuss the new studio, as well as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. He also took the stage to show off the first live gameplay demo of Ground Zeroes, the prologue to The Phantom Pain.
As gaming takes the world stage as one of the greatest forms of entertainment, it's only natural for us to expand our operations across the globe, and Los Angeles is ground zero for the best studios, facilities and world-class talent, we are leaning on these local resources to build an incredible team to create gaming experiences that are just as compelling as any film or television show.
Tomoyuki Tsuboi, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, heralded this as being the next step in Konami's dedication to expanding their development footprint. He also stated that putting a major Kojima Productions studio in the west will help spark fresh creativity from the local talent.
Konami and Kojima Productions recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Metal Gear Solid franchise with the announcement of a movie adaptation and the release of the Legacy Collection for the PlayStation 3.
